Shed some light on the dark and mysterious American gothic writer when you visit the Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum. Famous for his haunting poetry and short stories, Poe began his life in this two-and-a-half story duplex. The home has been converted to represent and reflect the life of Poe and contains materials owned by Poe such as his writing desk, on public display. Fans of literature will appreciate this attraction.

Tour the historic USS Constellation. Part of the Historic Ships in Baltimore, one of the most impressive collections of military vessels in the world, the USS Constellation was commissioned in 1855 and served until World War I. After her second decommission, this Civil War Era sloop-of-war was moved to Baltimore´s Inner Harbor and preserved.

You can find several monuments and attractions commemorating George Washington throughout the states of Maryland and Virginia. The Washington Monument State Park contains the first monument built for the first President. Built in 1827, this historic stone monument still stands proud near the summit of South Mountain´s Monument Knob.

Founded in 1959 after the District of Columbia made plans to abandon the streetcar services, the National Capital Trolley Museum opened a decade later to the public. The museum´s permanent exhibitions collect and preserve artifacts from the era of electrical street railways.
