Charlotte's Festival in the Park takes place every September in Freedom Park and offers locals and visitors a chance to celebrate the spirit of the city in a variety of ways. Fans of nature will gravitate to the outdoor beauty that lives at the UNC-Charlotte Botanical Gardens. This is where you will find several different varieties of plants and flowers that all make this place a truly captivating experience for the senses. You'll find several fine examples of rare species, as well. Plus, the two-story rain forest is something that no visitor to the garden should miss. This incredible slice of nature is located on the campus of the University of North Carolina, and if you are planning to take a group that has more than 10 people in it, you must schedule your visit.

The Afro-American Cultural Center in Charlotte is a great place to walk along together and take in some truly unique art and various types of exhibits. The center is an innovative epicenter that celebrates the triumphant spirit of the African American experience. One of the many dramatic exhibits tells the story of the role of African-Americans during the Revolutionary War through various artifacts and displays. The Spirit of Our Ancestors exhibit connects various aspects of life during that period in history to the plight of this minority group. You and your date will not only enjoy the historic and artistic presentations, but it will give the two of you plenty to talk about as you walk through this highly impressive venue.
