Nestled along the Schuylkill River, the aptly named Schuylkill River Park provides a large municipal space for outdoor recreation. From the soccer fields, baseball diamond, tennis and basketball courts to the special section designated for dogs, this recreational center offers plenty of activities. Eventually, construction will connect this park to the popular Schuylkill River Trail.

Chow down on some pub grub and order any drink you desire at the Frankford Hall Beer Garden. This beer garden and German pub serves up a full bar, specializing in German beer served in traditional mugs, alongside fine cuisine like bratwurst and sauerkraut. Enjoy your drinks and meal at the indoor courtyard filled with tables and games.

About and hour and half away from Philly is Bushkill Park, a smaller, family-friendly amusement park perfect for children. Historic Bushkill Park is famous for its antique rides, such as bumper cars, and has one of the oldest funhouses in the world. The park is currently undergoing some renovation but a revival is expected, especially after the park was featured on American Pickers.

One of the oldest centers of science education and development in the country, the Franklin Institute provides a variety of permanent and traveling exhibits that are sure to appeal to people of all ages and interests—from a giant walk-through heart to the interactive KidScience exhibit.
