The Hidalgo County Veterans War Memorial is a tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. The Veterans War Memorial of Texas is constructing a black granite spire 105 feet tall, known as the "American Spire of Honor." This monumental structure represents honor, respect, and gratitude for all American military men and women who sacrificed their lives in this Nation's wars and conflicts. The "American Spire of Honor" is intended to serve as a reminder that freedom comes at a significant cost and to showcase the unwavering commitment of Americans to the values of freedom and liberty for all. To become a Guardian of the "American Spire of Honor," individuals can add their names to the Guardian walls located beside the Spire. By doing so, they pledge their allegiance to the heroes of the past and to the principles that have made the United States a beacon of hope for the world.

Texas is a state renowned for its rich and varied history, and the city of Harlingen is no exception. The Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum is a distinctive museum located in the Rio Grande Valley that offers visitors a glimpse into the local history and culture through its rotating exhibits and attractions. The museum houses an impressive collection of historical objects, photographs, and artwork that tell the region's stories in an engaging and informative manner. The museum is situated in three historical buildings, including the original home of Lon C. Hill, who founded the town of Harlingen, the Paso Real Stagecoach Inn, and Harlingen's first hospital. The Historical Museum, previously the Air Police Squadron and Brig of the Harlingen Air Force Base, is also on the premises. This building contains permanent collections of Harlingen and Texas historical objects and photos. The main museum building showcases rotating arts and cultural exhibitions.

The Gladys Porter Zoo is a fantastic place to visit, spanning 31 acres of land and home to more than 1,600 animals worldwide. From gorillas, wallabies, and rhinos to zebras, crocodiles, lions, kangaroos, and giraffes, the Zoo features wildlife from various regions such as Asia, Africa, Australia, the United States, and marine life. The Zoo is a well-known zoological and botanical park renowned for its successful conservation programs and breeding of endangered species. The park promotes nature preservation through education, conservation, outdoor recreation, and research. The park boasts several attractions, including the Herpetarium, Aquarium, Tropical America Free-flight Aviary, Macaw Canyon, Bear Grottos, and a Komodo dragon exhibit. In addition, the park's Small World section features a nursery and an animal contact yard where children can interact with domesticated animals.
