The Gladys Porter Zoo is a fantastic place to visit, spanning 31 acres of land and home to more than 1,600 animals worldwide. From gorillas, wallabies, and rhinos to zebras, crocodiles, lions, kangaroos, and giraffes, the Zoo features wildlife from various regions such as Asia, Africa, Australia, the United States, and marine life. The Zoo is a well-known zoological and botanical park renowned for its successful conservation programs and breeding of endangered species. The park promotes nature preservation through education, conservation, outdoor recreation, and research. The park boasts several attractions, including the Herpetarium, Aquarium, Tropical America Free-flight Aviary, Macaw Canyon, Bear Grottos, and a Komodo dragon exhibit. In addition, the park's Small World section features a nursery and an animal contact yard where children can interact with domesticated animals.
The Riverside Club is a unique bar, grill, and particular event center located on the banks of the picturesque Rio Grande River. It is an ideal location for all kinds of parties and special events. You can relax in air-conditioned comfort in a casual atmosphere or enjoy the fresh air on the shaded waterfront patio while enjoying the tropical paradise and a glorious sunset. It's perfect for sipping a cold drink with a friend while unwinding and enjoying the scenic beauty. The club offers four indoor adjoining rooms with seating for up to 300 people and an outside shaded tropical patio along the Rio Grande River that seats many more guests. There is a stage and dance floor both inside and outside. Whether it's a birthday dinner for 20 guests on the Riverside Dreamer boat, a wedding or company Christmas party for 200 in the event center, a non-profit fundraising event, or a corporate picnic of 500 in our outdoor areas, Riverside Club & Special Event Center can accommodate your celebration.
Prepare for bucking broncos and rodeo clowns at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show. This particular livestock show is one of the top ten in the state. The famous festival features a parade, a rodeo, a beauty pageant, and a livestock competition. As you enjoy the activities, the best-raised steers, rabbits, goats, lambs, pigs, and horses win first prize. The mission of the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show is to provide a safe and educational environment that promotes family, community, and volunteerism. They strive to encourage the youth of South Texas through leadership development, agricultural education, and competition to create the leaders of tomorrow.
