Birmingham's Red Mountain Theatre both celebrates and fosters the talents of the many actors, singers and performers who make their home here. This is a non-profit professional theater organization that gives both training and performing opportunities to aspiring and culturally diverse artists. The troupe presents various entertainment productions throughout the year, with a special emphasis on musical productions.
A romantic date doesn't have to be elaborate. Sometimes, a stroll in the park and a relaxing picnic is the perfect way for the two of you to focus on each other while enjoying Birmingham's natural beauty. A great place to do that is Vulcan Park. The site's focal point is the largest cast-iron statue in the world and it was created for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. There are activities for kids and families, but the park is lush and expansive enough for you two to find a quiet out-of-the-way spot to enjoy each other's company.
If the kids get easily bored with just one activity, go to a place where there are several fun attractions for them to choose from. That place is the Trussville Playstation. This incredibly diverse facility is a family-fun dream come true. Featuring activities like go-karting, miniature golf, video games, skating, a two level laser tag facility, and a large batting cage – the kids won't know where to start their afternoon of fun. There is a dress code that is enforced for kids 7 years of age and older as well as for non-participating adults.
Get ready for a wild time when you set out for Alabama's Sipsey Wilderness Area. This is the third largest wilderness area east of the Mississippi and is located in the Bankhead National Forest. Located just 90 miles northwest of Birmingham, the outdoor area offers camping, fishing, hunting, horseback riding as well as numerous streams that are perfect for a canoe ride. The amazing canyons and bluffs range from 50 to 200 feet high, and the trails were created by Native Americans and offer a unique way to view this rustic pocket of nature.
