Located in western Blount County, it contains some of the most massive and visually arresting underground formations in the state. The UAB Blazers maintain their sizable sports following for the University of Alabama. The university's football team is one of the twelve member institutions of Conference USA and plays its home games at Legion Field. The men's basketball team is also supported by a legion of enthusiastic fans and plays its home games at Bartow Arena.
