Sailing is a popular sport in Long Beach, and the Congressional Cup sailing event is held in Long Beach every April. The event which began in 1964 has grown into one of the world's most recognized sailing events. The one-on-one race is similar to the America's Cup competition, so it is not surprising that the winners of the Congressional race go on to win the America’s Cup as well.

And, to remember her immeasurable contribution to popular music, the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach bears her name as well as continues her tradition of excellence. This 1,074-seat entertainment venue presents a steady schedule of both large and small performing ensembles, film screenings, concerts, conferences and other special events. So from comedy to drama, from rock to ballet and everything in between, see it come to life on stage at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center.

If you are bringing the whole family out for a day of fun in the California sun, then the appropriately-named Mother's Beach is the most obvious choice. This recently-renovated beach park offers plenty of amenities and attractions that will please the whole family. There's a little whale at the center of the kiddie splash pad, rocks to climb, swings to swing on, and of course, lots of sand! A swimming area for adults and older kids is roped off from the area designated for toddlers and kiddies to enjoy.
