The High Line Canal trail is rather lengthy at 67 miles, but it offers an incredible variety of different scenery that will make your hike even more invigorating. This trek is part of a much larger trail system owned and operated by Denver Water. Access to the recreation trail can be found at Expo Park, Highline Park, Aurora Municipal Center, DeLaney Farm, and Norfolk Glen Park. Runners and walkers beware, as the trail allows horses in the High Line Canal area.

Get a feel of what it was like to attend class in a two-room schoolhouse when you visit Aurora's Melvin School. The structure, built in 1922 and named a landmark in 1986, originally served the outlying community of Melvin. In 1949, the structure was carefully moved to make room for the Cherry Creek Reservoir. After being used as a tavern for 17 years, the Cherry Creek Historical Society moved the school to its current location on the grounds of Smoky Hill High School where it continues to be owned and maintained by the Cherry Hill School District.

Nature lovers and fans of the great outdoors absolutely love the Morrison Nature Center, and for plenty of good reasons! This venue is the perfect avenue by which you can encounter some of Aurora's natural beauty. The Morrison Nature Center is located on Star K Ranch, which is over 200 acres and is part of the Sand Creek Regional Greenway. This Greenway is a 14-mile trail system that connects Aurora to Denver and Commerce City, and that long stretch of nature offers plenty of excellent opportunities to see some of the area's most amazing wildlife in its natural habitat.

Satisfy your sweet tooth with a visit to Hammond's Candies. The company has been creating some of the world's sweetest candies and confections since 1920. A large part of their continued success is the fact that they have stayed true to their original recipes and careful attention is still given to every aspect of the candy's production. A tour of the facility lasts approximately 30 minutes, and during that time you will see how candy canes and lollypops are made from start to finish. The tours are free and no reservations are required.
