One of Hartford’s premier cultural events is the Caribbean and Jerk Festival. It has been held every August for the past seven years and features both the upper and lower areas of Mortensen Riverfront Plaza transformed into a Caribbean village. The whole family will enjoy the variety of music and dance performances as well as authentic Caribbean fare offered by more than 25 vendors. There is also a children's activity area, a Caribbean carnival, and salsa merengue lessons.

His surname graced the first dictionary, and his authorship of the first American edition of the dictionary is just one of the many fascinating aspects of visiting his historic home. Boating and water recreation enthusiasts enjoy their time on the water when they light out on the Farmington River. The river is easily accessible from the road starting below Goodwin Dam in Heartland, Connecticut. Boaters enjoy seasonal excursions, with the best being in the late spring and early summer.
