Boyd Hill Nature Park offers you a chance to spend some time outdoors and encounter some of the area's wildlife without venturing too far from civilization. This impressive nature preserve is located south of St. Petersburg and spreads out over 245 acres of terrain that includes marshlands, lake shores, and forests. There are also several boardwalks and nature trails to discover. Special tours and nighttime hikes are offered, in addition to the popular kid's day camps.
The Salvador Dali Museum is a worthwhile day trip to St. Petersburg from Tampa. The museum holds the largest Dali collection outside of Spain. You'll be astonished to see the huge giant canvases painted with colorful fantastical dream like imagery, straight from the famous artist's head. Bring swimsuits to swim and build sandcastles at one of the nearby beautiful beaches that St. Pete is famous for. This trailblazing Spanish surrealist definitely had a unique way of viewing the world, and his one-of-a-kind viewpoints make up the many visually stunning exhibits you'll find here. When you and your date stroll from one exhibit to another, you will be seeing pieces that make up the world's most extensive collection of Dali's work.
The kids will love seeing the aquatic life and learning about their rehabilitation when you visit the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. This unassuming facility serves as both a rehabilitation facility for animals as well as an educational facility where visitors can learn more about ecology and role which wildlife plays in it through fascinating exhibits and attractions. The kids will be excited to see such creatures as sea turtles, sharks, otters, dolphins and sting rays.
Go on a four-hour adventure packed with sun, surf and history when you take the Egmont Key Snorkeling from St. Pete Beach. As you travel through the clear blue waters off of St. Pete Beach, you will begin to embark on a unique adventure that will allow you to explore the remains of Fort Dade which dates back to the Spanish-American War. You will also visit the historic island of Egmont Key that is home to the National Wildlife Refuge. Another highlight is the lighthouse that was constructed in 1848. Then, you can enjoy a big splash with the opportunity to snorkel, swim, or just stay on board the ship and relax.
