The Salvador Dali Museum is a worthwhile day trip to St. Petersburg from Tampa. The museum holds the largest Dali collection outside of Spain. Pirates of every shape, size and color descend on St. Petersburg's Vinoy Park every November for the Florida Pirate Festival. This event showcases various forms of interactive theater that celebrate the legendary Caribbean pirate tradition. The park becomes overrun with all things pirate, but also manages to include music, rides, comedy, cannons, storytelling, artisan crafts, nighttime fire shows and great food as well as a plethora of pirates!

Boyd Hill Nature Park offers you a chance to spend some time outdoors and encounter some of the area's wildlife without venturing too far from civilization. This impressive nature preserve is located south of St. Petersburg and spreads out over 245 acres of terrain that includes marshlands, lake shores, and forests. There are also several boardwalks and nature trails to discover. Special tours and nighttime hikes are offered, in addition to the popular kid's day camps.
