Each November, the area's best local and regional musicians along with some nationally recognized artists gather for the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival. Known as Shreveport's "party in the park," there's a whole lot more than just the incredible music. You'll see unique jewelry, home décor, and other one-of-a-kind items for sale by participating artisans. Two stages feature rotating musical acts, and the five hours of live music and fun are absolutely free!

Taking a hike is always fun, but it's even more of an adventure when the terrain that you're exploring is as picturesque as the Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park. The trails are as inviting as the pine-oak-hickory forest in which they lie, and several naturalists are available by appointment to guide you through your trek. The park also offers special programs for students and various school groups, as well as day camps and other special events and attractions.

A romantic outdoor stroll for a couple or a nice little break for the whole family, the RiverView Park is the perfect place to do either one. With its spectacular 35 foot tall steel roses, a 300 foot long floating dock and the omnipresent Red River, it is one of the city's premier places to take in all of nature's wonders.

Whether it's talented locals or world class, seasoned performers, they all feel at home when they're performing at the Shreveport Opera. Some of the season's many notable productions include Don Giovanni, La Boheme and Tosca. The entertainment venue is also the site for several book fairs and other fund-raising projects throughout the year in an effort to keep the art of opera alive in Shreveport.
