More than 700 athletes, 500 coaches and nearly 600 volunteers meet every June for the Special Olympics North Carolina Midsummer Tournament. Add in the large number of family members as well as friends and supporters and you've got an event of epic proportions. These very special kids work so hard all year long for this opportunity to shine in their sport of choice, and the continued support and love from the community is inspiring not only for them, but for their families, teachers, and friends as well.
The Kennedy Center is situated within its impressive structure, and that particular theater features an impressive stage and multi-dimensional acoustics that make the more intimate performances like solo piano concerts and one act plays that much more vivid. Other entertainment venues within the event center are the Memorial, Fletcher Opera and the Meymandi; each hosts ballets, plays and other live entertainment.
Ever wonder whose names are on the "African American Hall of Fame"? These individuals gave of their time and talent and persevered against insurmountable odds to accomplish their difficult, hard-fought goals in such important areas as science, business, medicine, politics and the arts. These stories come to life at the African American Cultural Complex.
