Synonymous with championship golf, the elegant Baltusrol Golf Club has offered members and guests one of the most distinguished golfing venues in the state since 1895. This club’s 36-hole dual golf courses both offer a scenic sight as you travel the undulating greens and calm (albeit hazardous) ponds and creeks, although the Lower course may present even more of a challenge to golfers than the Upper.
The exclusive, invitation-only Bayonne Golf Club offers some of the best golfing privileges as well as the best amenities to its discerning members. Passionate golfers will find their niche at this classically designed, seaside course. The challenging course twists, tumbles and weaves its way along the unique New York Harbor’s landscape, complete with a waterfront view of Manhattan’s iconic skyline.
Golfers of all skill levels will enjoy an engaging game at Glen Ridge Country Club. This 18-hole regulation golf course has been a major player in the Newark metropolitan golfing community since 1894. Part of the USGA’s first 100 Clubs in the country, this excellent course features four different teeing areas, a stone-walled brook, various ponds and a slope rating of 125.
The luxurious, expensive Liberty National Golf Course was built, ironically, on a former landfill. None of its origins are obvious today, however, as this golf club is currently one of the most prestigious country clubs along the Hudson River. The unmistakable Manhattan skyline creates the backdrop for this rolling, water-hazard filled terrain.
Generally considered the 13th oldest golf club in the US, the Montclair Golf Club has changed locations and designs many times over the decades. Rather than two 18-hole courses, Montclair offers members four individual 9-holes to choose from. The current nines bring together a diverse group of golfers for dynamic, challenging games on their tight fairways and fast, “heart breaking” greens.
Members of the Rock Spring Club enjoy the use of the club’s premier golf course. Recently renovated in 2001, the current 18-hole private equity course includes masterfully engineered fairways, new and recontoured greenside bunkers, and expanded teeing areas. Join in one of the many state PGA and USGA events hosted here throughout the year or take part in one of the golf program’s weekly events.
