No matter what sport you are interested in, Kent State University Athletics promises a thrilling college game. The Golden Flashes take on rival universities and colleges with 16 varsity teams, including basketball, baseball, football, field hockey, golf, wrestling and gymnastics. The Matinee was started in Akron’s Highland Square historic area in the fall of 2006. It was opened by Mario Nemr (and pals), the long time resident DJ at Akron’s infamous alternative nightclub, Thursday's Lounge. The Matinee became an instant hit within the local Akron music scene. Local and national bands are attracted to its warm atmosphere, small stage, and a great sound system. In addition, an excellent beer and wine list made it a welcoming spot for just about any person who enjoys the nightlife.
