Formerly known as the Gloria Theatre, the Sottile Theatre is a first-class performing arts venue located on the campus of the College of Charleston. The theater hosts several events that range from ballets to Broadway musicals, concerts and operas. The Sottile has an impressive history, as it opened its doors back in 1927 and has gained the faithful support of art lovers and theater-goers in Charleston for several years. The 785-seat entertainment venue is a work of art itself, as it features state of the art sound and staging technologies as well as a layout that includes a balcony, dinner at a a piazza and other reception rooms.
The North Charleston Performing Arts Center prides itself in the tradition of bringing Broadway attractions to South Carolina, as it annually presents stage productions that rival the ones staged further up the coast in a little place called New York City. The talented actors and producers put it all together and theater-goers in town look forward to these presentations every year. In addition to shows that appeal to a more adult audience, there are several titles that hold a high, family-friendly appeal that will no doubt introduce the charms and fun of the theater to the young and aspiring actor or actress in your family.
Cypress Gardens is a nature lover's paradise. Located just outside of Charleston, the gardens can be found inside a black water cypress swamp. This southern conservatory features some unbelievably beautiful flowers, like the camellia in the early part of the year to the antique roses that bloom in mid-spring. Still, the time of year doesn't really matter, as the garden's beauty knows no season. You can also explore nearly 4 miles of nature trails, the Butterfly House, the Swamparium that houses several species of fish, and much more. If you already appreciate Mother Nature and the great outdoors, this attraction will only add to your admiration.
