Knoxville had the honor of hosting the World's Fair in 1982. One of the most obvious reminders of that momentous event is the fact that the Sunsphere was built to complement the event and it still stands today as a great way for tourists to get a bird's eye view of the city. Visit the various levels and enjoy views of downtown, the University of Tennessee and the mountains in the distance. It's a truly breathtaking experience. Other attractions include The Candy Factory, a group of Victorian homes that house shops selling arts and crafts, and Fort Kid that is a playground featuring historically-themed rides and play areas. The celebration of the World's Fair clearly still echoes at this fun, family-friendly attraction in Knoxville. 

Take the family on an unforgettable adventure in nature when you visit the Ijams Nature Center. The kids will absolutely love the hands-on exhibits and attractions that encourage a high level of interactivity. Learn about lost animal species, conservation, and lots more. You can also take a tour on the many trails that lead through the grounds and see some creatures dwelling in their natural habitats. Whatever you decide to do, there's plenty of great family fun waiting at the Ijams Nature Center.

A truly compelling cross-section of history is collected at the Frank H. McClung Museum. You'll want to set aside a whole afternoon to take in the various exhibits that range from extensive collections in archeology, natural history, anthropology, medicine, art, and local history. See special presentations and pieces that focus on the area's prehistoric times all the way to the present. The incredibly well-thought out exhibits and pieces make this far-reaching history lesson one that you will never forget.
