The National Book Festival attracts both writers and readers of some of the world's best-loved books. Several award-winning authors head to the National Mall for this event every September to be on hand for autograph signing and seminar appearances. The kids will love meeting some of the characters from some of their favorite books as they come to life here and are available for photos.

Union Station is one of Washington, DC's most historic places that still sees an amazing amount of activity. The station is one of the city's most popular tourist attractions, and since it opened in 1907, also stands as the world's largest train station. Even though this rich past still is very much a part of its identity, Union Station also boasts an incredible array of shopping and dining choices thanks to an incredible $160 million upgrade. There are over 100 specialty shops and restaurants as well as a 9-screen movie theater.

H Street Country Club offers an average golfing experience but includes a bit of built-in challenges. The course itself isn't quite evenly maintained and there is the issue of airplane noise due to its location, but overall it offers nice views of the city and the staff is friendly. Another amenity is the great menu at the concession, so either before or after your tee time, you can enjoy a hearty meal.
