H Street Country Club offers an average golfing experience but includes a bit of built-in challenges. The course itself isn't quite evenly maintained and there is the issue of airplane noise due to its location, but overall it offers nice views of the city and the staff is friendly. Another amenity is the great menu at the concession, so either before or after your tee time, you can enjoy a hearty meal.

Ford's Theatre has a built-in drama all its own. This is where John Wilkes Booth shot President Abraham Lincoln, and that unsettling episode still resonates in the structure today. Take a tour that retraces the incident, and you can also get a look at some of the interesting backstage areas. And if you are visiting for a performance, the excellent acoustics and inviting seating arrangement will ensure that whether you are watching a play or a musical production, the entertainment takes on a deeper significance when you consider that you are sitting within some truly historic walls.

Seize the opportunity to see our government in action with a visit to the Supreme Court of the United States. The Neoclassical architecture of the building is stunning, and the outer spectacle of the Court is just the beginning. While the court term runs from October through June, you can actually sit in on an actual Court session. Seating is limited, however, so plan to arrive early at the Front Plaza if you want a seat. When the Court is not sitting, you can still take in a lecture or presentation every hour on the half hour.

The Veterans Day Ceremony held every November draws veterans in record numbers to solemnly commemorate their fallen comrades during this highly patriotic ceremony. The President is often in attendance as well as several other political and military leaders. The ceremony is held in the amphitheater built around the Tomb of the Unknowns. Among the highly emotional parts of the ceremony are musical tributes, keynote speeches and the laying of wreaths.
