Built around the former Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, the National Civil Rights Museum memorializes the Civil Rights Movement and its iconic leaders. This premier heritage and cultural attraction chronicles the Civil Rights Movement from 1619 to 2000. Learn about the influence this movement has had on other human rights movements through the museum's collections, exhibitions, research and educational programs.
Go on a water recreation adventure with Ghost River Canoe and Kayak Rentals. Follow the well-marked canoe trail in the Wolf River. This 8.5-mile trail includes many turns, beautiful cypress, wildlife sightings, a trip through Spirit Lake and the mystic Ghost Section. Located about half an hour outside of Memphis, this part of the river is great for more experienced paddlers but not recommended for beginners.
Walk along the scenic Riverwalk or take a ride on the Monorail at Mud Island River Park, home to plenty of attractions and Memphis's own Adventure Center-the best place to get out and be active within the city. Rent a bike to explore the trails and surrounding area, or take a canoe or kayak out on the river. Learn about the history of the Lower Mississippi Valley at Mud Island's Mississippi River Museum.
