Enjoy one of the largest indoor ProRodeo events in the world, Rodeo Austin, a not-for-profit that provides real experiences and gritty fun to raise millions for Texas kids. This year-round nonprofit is funded by a month-long real western experience held every March. Rodeo-goers get to do things they can do nowhere else including a ProRodeo, one-of-a-kind concerts, a carnival and a livestock show. All while raising millions for Texas kids.
Explore the "jewel in the heart of Austin," also known as the Zilker Botanical Garden. The garden was established in 1995 and sprawls through 31 acres of downtown Austin, offering a sweet escape from city streets and greeting more than 400,000 visitors annually. Themes among the gardens are as varied as nature itself. There's a Japanese garden and koi pond, a rose garden, an herb garden, a butterfly trail and garden, and a cactus garden among the selections to tour. Another unique feature is the Hartman Prehistoric Garden, which recreates the habitat of local dinosaurs. Visitors can tour the gardens for free and take home a Texas succulent or majestic orchid among the many offerings.
Explore the homestead of Austin's oldest residence at the French Legation State Historic Site, where you will discover how the Texas settlement and the growth of one of the capital city’s most vibrant neighborhoods came to be. Tour the museum, whose original structure was built to accommodate the diplomatic outpost for the French chargé d’affaires to the Republic of Texas, Alphonse Dubois, after France recognized the Republic of Texas as a sovereign nation.
