Established in the aftermath of the Mexican War and abandoned after World War II, Fort McIntosh served as a strategic guard for the Texas frontier. The fort is preserved as part of the Laredo Community College campus although the Laredo United States Army Reserve 340th Quarter Master Company continues to occupy the fort.
