History and astronomy come together in a dazzling way at the Chesapeake Planetarium. From an historic standpoint, the facility is significant because it is the first planetarium built by a public school system in the state of Virginia. But this attraction also offers visitors a chance to gaze into the night sky and be amazed at the intricate patterns and formations that make up the constellations everyone has heard about. The staff is highly knowledgeable and can answer any questions you may have. Also, there are various lectures and special presentations on the schedule. Take a tour that will take you back to one of the last remaining antebellum homes when you visit the Lee Hall Mansion. Originally built between 1851 and 1859, this impressive structure was the home of affluent planter Richard Decauter Lee. The Victorian-styled home never fails to mesmerize the many visitors who quietly tour the various rooms which are furnished with impressively detailed, authentic furniture and accessories. Also, there are special events and evening programs that are planned year round.

Man's best friend needs some quality time outdoors, too, so if your pooch is begging for a little outdoor fun, make your way to the Chesapeake Dog Park. This dog park is located near the Western Branch Community Center and offers such amenities as covered picnic tables and benches. The facility is an off-leash park that offers plenty of open spaces for your dog to play, and the fenced area features even more benches as well as a water fountain.

Oak Grove Lake Park is one of those places in Chesapeake where it all seems to come together for the outdoor lover. In addition to a stunning 65-acre hardwood forest, trails and wetlands, there is also a lake that proves to be a popular attraction with fans of water sports and recreation. Enjoy a refreshing swim, lounge on the shore or take your boat out for a relaxing afternoon of fishing.
