Mobile Ballet is the Gulf Coast's premiere ballet company and school. This group of highly talented performers works hard all year long to bring you an impressive schedule of events. Mardi Gras in Mobile takes place over the course of two and a half weeks in February. The city has been recognized as the site of the first ever Mardi Gras celebration in 1703, well before it took place in New Orleans. Mobile's history is alive and well at the Oakleigh Historic Complex. Travel back in time as you tour the majestic antebellum mansion that dates back to 1833. You will be truly impressed with the breathtaking Greek Revival-style architecture that features large white pillars and an unmistakeable 19th century timeless quality. When you tour the mansion, you'll be immediately struck by your tour guides as they are dressed in the finery of the day that add an air of authenticity to your visit. The rooms are adorned to look much as they did before the Civil War, and they feature American and European antiques as well as items that actually belonged to the people who once dwelled in this incredible structure.
