It doesn't matter if you want to teach the kids about the finer points of fishing, how to swim or if you just want to get them out of the house for awhile. A great time brightly booms every year at Macon's International Cherry Blossom Festival, held every March. This is a city-wide celebration that lasts 10 days and brings together several popular activities for the whole family to enjoy. There are arts and crafts, hot air balloons, live music, special exhibits and lots more. And, fittingly, it all happens against the backdrop of more 300,000 Yoshino cherry trees!

New York City has Central Park. Not to be outdone, Macon has Central City Park. This lush, expansive swath of greenery is a true haven for city-dwelling nature lovers. While the park is a popular lunch destination for the many nearby cubicle-bound office workers, it also offers urbanites a great place to enjoy some quality time doing fun outdoor activities. Central City Park features various ball fields, basketball courts and big expansive areas to just play and throw the frisbee around. Designated picnic areas, a good variety of playground equipment for the kids, and a winding walking path only add to the park's appeal.

Whether it's a musical performance, a dramatic production or a graceful ballet recital, the magnitude of each musical note and movement of each of the figures on stage will become even more dramatic when you see it at Macon's Grand Opera House. This entertainment venue holds much historic significance within its walls. Performers as diverse as Will Rogers, Sandra Berndardt, and Harry Houdini have all spent time in the limelight here as the have dazzled audiences with their unique talents. The structure was originally built in 1884 and still features one of the largest stages in the South.
