The Paint Creek Trail in Rochester, a Detroit suburb, offers guests a gorgeous landscape and a wonderfully paved recreation trail. Perfect for walking, running, biking, skating and anything in-between, this former railway bed was the first rail-to-trail project in the state. The 8-foot wide paved trail stretches for nine miles and has plenty of free parking nearby.
Bibliophiles rejoice! John K. King Books in downtown Detroit boasts four above-ground floors and a basement full of rare and used books for the public to peruse and purchase. The largest independent bookseller in the state, this enormous collection (over 1 million books) accounts for most of the store’s business–but true book collectors will want to make an appointment to view the rarer antiques next door.
Impress your special someone at the MotorCity Wine, where wine and jazz are on the top of the menu. Sample the best wines in Detroit and nibble on a fine selection of Artisan made cheeses, cured meats, olives, crackers and more with live or vinyl jazz in the background creating a smooth, heady atmosphere. Purchase a favorite wine as a memento of your romantic date!
For a memorable musical experience, visit the Detroit Opera House. Home to the Michigan Opera Theatre, this lavish building offers seating for up to 2,700 guests in its finely-crafted interior. Stop by this entertainment venue for one of the many productions: five operas, five dance performances and a medley of other musical and comedic events.
