A major twist has occurred in a police investigation that has captivated the world.Famed actor and singer Jussie Smollett reported to Chicago police in January that two masked men attacked him while shouting racial and homophobic slurs.Police arrested and detained two men. One was an extra in the sitcom Empire, in which Smollett stars.Police believed the men detained were the same pair spotted in surveillance video the morning Smollett reported getting attacked.The two men were released and police said they are no longer suspects in the case.There are new allegations that Smollett fabricated the attack. Police arent confirming, but authorities did say the case has shifted the investigation and that Smollett needs to return to Chicago for more questions.
A part-time employee with Lowell Public Schools was arrested on suspicion of creating child pornography.WoodTV reports Madalynne Iteen faces a charge of production of child pornography. A Homeland Security Investigations agent wrote a criminal complaint after receiving a tip from Ontario police, leading to a federal investigation Monday. The Ontario officers arrested someone for on suspicion of child pornography and have been keeping an eye on the suspects email account.Last week, Ontario police found an email that had pornographic images of an infant, which led them to Iteen. Court documents claim Iteen admitted that she took the photos after being instructed to do so by someone she met online.The Lowell superintendent said the district was notified Friday morning that authorities had arrested a part-time employee. An ice fisherman was pulled from a sinking truck Saturday morning in Lexington. Witnesses said the man was drunk.Video shows the man trying to get inside the truck, which was sinking after falling through lake ice, to retrieve items inside.Its not worth dying for, man, said one of the men who pulled him from the truck.He was pulled from the water onto the ice dramatically as the truck became completely submerged in what is reported to be 12 feet deep of water.Alcohol adds additional risk for hypothermia. It expands the blood vessels, causing more heat loss. Alcohol also diminishes the bodys ability to shiver and can affect a persons judgement on how cold he or she is.According to the Mayo Clinic, an intoxicated person in cold weather is likely to develop hypothermia.There were no reported injuries.Video of the rescue can be seen below.
A large mess closed I-75 Saturday afternoon in Oakland County. ORIGINAL STORY: I-75 reopens after 50 ton rock salt spill on freeway causes closureNorthbound lanes were shut down for hours after the driver of a truck lost control and crashed, spilling 50 tons of salt onto the interstate.Residents were forced to find new routes their to destinations.The detour posted by the Michigan Department of Transportation and Troy police took drivers on Big Beaver Road -- an already busy road on weekends due to the Sommerset Collection.The freeway reopened at about 4:30 p.m.Police said the truck hit the left guardrail and bounced off, driving across all lanes of the highway and stopping on its side. It did not collide with any vehicles.The truck driver walked away without injuries.
A car was going nearly 100 mph when it collided with a Dearborn Heights business early Saturday morning.The collision caused significant damage to the building at about 3 a.m.Tamara Fiema, who works with Signature Group Realty, didnt get much sleep Saturday. She discovered the car crashed into one of her offices on social media after her son found a video on Instagram.The video shows the moments Dearborn Heights officers arrived and realized the damage is just as bad as it looked. Authorities arrested the driver once they managed to pull them out of the car and said the driver was heavily intoxicated and driving about 100 mph on Ford Road. Despite a suspected drunken driver slamming into the building, employees are still optimistic and grateful that no one was hurt.
