If you want to find a variety of specialty shops while getting a taste of Amarillo's past, check out the Historic Route 66 downtown. The shops usually don't stay open late, so starting your shopping excursion either just after 10 am or before 5 pm is a good idea. Aside from these great little stores, you'll enjoy the rustic architecture that harkens back to a time when there were horses in the streets instead of cars. Even with it's modern update this area has retained that dusty, old-time feeling and a lot of character that you'll enjoy while shopping the streets of this district.
Comanche Trail Golf Complex is owned by the City of Amarillo. The original Tomahawk Course was designed by Charles Howard, Austin Texas and opened in July 1990. The course offers professional practice facilities including a large full length driving range with many tee areas, two large practice greens with chipping areas, and a sand bunker to practice short or long shots. Comanche Trail Golf Complex is home to Major Area Championships, Charity and Civic Golf Tournaments, Customer Appreciation Events, along with many Church, Family Reunions, and Class Reunion Outings. The Arrowhead Course was opened in May 1999. The layout was designed by Cupp Design, Atlanta Georgia. Both golf courses offer championship golf at affordable prices. The layouts are Scottish style links nestled in the heart of the Texas Panhandle.
Amarillo's Wonderland Park has been providing 60 years of "wows" to several generations of young ones who love to ride the rides and be a part of this iconic amusement park's excitement. The fun never ends at Wonderland, as you can choose from everything from miniature golf to one of four roller-coasters, five water rides as well as merry-go-rounds, bumper cars and even a pirate ship! Every day there are special ticket promotions, so make sure you check their website before heading out for a great day at this amusement attraction.
Set the stage for a perfect evening for you and your partner, as you enjoy the bouquet of aromas and tastes from wines made in the Lone Star State at the Bar Z Winery. The winery features a beautiful facility, with everything from intimate tables lit by candles to a beautiful panoramic view of the canyon. Come and enjoy a glass of wine and an unforgettable evening. Despite the fact that wineries in California have gotten much attention, the first winery was actually established in Texas back in 1662. The state has quietly been producing wine ever since, and is now the fifth largest wine-producing state in the U.S. Sip a glass of Texas wine, and be pleasantly surprised.
