The vessels were a gift from Spain to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' voyage to the New World. They were constructed from authentic 15th-century materials, including wood from the same forest as Columbus' ships and hand-forged nails. Other exhibits include an interactive shipwreck display, artifacts related to French explorer Robert Cavelier, the Children's Wharf, Native American crafts, and bird and reptile eggs that chronicle the history and culture of South Texas.
