Since 1976, locals and visitors alike have enjoyed the Westfest Polka Festival, held in West, Texas, a short 15 mile drive from Waco. Visitors pay homage to the German culture in Texas with a big variety of food booths, kids' activities, a parade, baking contests, arts and crafts, a tractor pull and even a polka mass! Artifacts from various points in American history are gathered here, like Aaron Burr's writing desk, a ring that used to belong to Rudolph Valentino, and a bugle that was used on the field at Gettysburg. Reference materials, archival documents and other items are all housed here, and this museum presents history from an unmistakable Native American perspective.
