If you and your mate want to do something fun and romantic, why not add the ever-popular ingredient of nature to stir things along? It all comes together on the Brazos River when the two of you step aboard the "Spirit of the Rivers" Paddleboat for a fun, unique little getaway. The captain's humorous narration and asides make for a lighthearted voyage, and the music played is perfectly suited for a riverboat cruise.
The Earle-Napier-Kinnard House is another slice of what life was like in the 1800s. The land was purchased by John Bayliss Earle in 1858 and upon it he built a modest one story home where he and his family resided. In 1868 when Dr. John Smith Napier Sr. moved in, he had the financial resources to fortify the home and improve it into a classic Greek-revival-style home. The house was eventually renovated and expanded, and stands today as a symbol of what houses and day-to-day living were like back in 1868. Tours of the home and adjacent gardens are available.
