Got your rod and reel but don't know where to cast your line? Two of the most popular fishing spots near Anchorage are Bird Creek and Mat-Su Valley Lakes. Bird Creek is where you may find silver and good pink salmon at the end of your line. The creek is about an hour's drive south of downtown Anchorage. The Mat-Su Valley Lakes are about 40 minutes north of town and the quiet atmosphere is a welcome getaway where you can catch trout, Arctic Char and landlocked salmon.

The Phillips 26 Glacier Tour is nearly as formidable and impressive as a glacier itself. This incredible seven-hour tour allows you to get really up close and enjoy views that you may not get on any other tour. The tour travels over 135 miles into Prince William Sound where you will see 26 named glaciers as well as many more unnamed ones. You encounter these glaciers from the vantage point of a three-deck catamaran which allows you to cover many miles of scenery on this incredible, unforgettable tour.

The Fur Rendezvous Festival held in late February or early March dates back to the early 1900s when trappers and miners came back from the wilderness to trade, socialize and compete in survival-type games. The event has been updated somewhat, and now those games consist of a weight pull, sled dog races, snowshoe softball games, ice sculpture competitions and lots more. There's also the popular Miners and Trappers costume ball, so make plans to be a part of this fun, week-long event.
