Retrace the steps of some of our nation's bravest and most fervent believers in equal rights when you find your way on the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail. This trail was indeed blazed by those seeking equal voting rights as well as other civil rights issues. The trail was established by Congress in 1996 to commemorate the people, events and route of the 1965 Voting Rights march in Alabama. Lake Martin is located in the central part of Alabama. It is an impressive 39,180-acre lake that is popular for swimming, fishing, water skiing, camping and other recreation. Boating access and marinas are numerous as to make access easier for boaters and other aquatic thrill seekers.

A visit to Montgomery's Oakwood Cemetery Annex is as historically interesting as it is somewhat eerie. This cemetery dates back to the 1800s and is the burial site for many of Alabama's forefathers. Hank Williams is buried here, as memorialized by a stone-carved cowboy hat that marks his gravesite. This is a great stop to learn about Montgomery's history from a totally unique perspective.
