The Alabama National Fair is not only a fun event held every fall, but also it has a higher purpose. The event's objective is to raise funds to support children and youth charities throughout central Alabama and the aid is distributed through the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery. Great food, fun and music are just a few of this festival's many attractions. But once it is all said and done, the overriding purpose of providing assistance to those in the area who are in need is successfully accomplished.
Every spring, Montgomery residents look forward to the Flimp Festival held at the Museum of Fine Arts. This high-profile family fun event offers plenty of fun and interactive activities. The event showcases the work of local artists and offers opportunities for art making, chalk art and lots more. There’s boat racing and a treasure hunt as well as lots of great food and live music.
The people of Montgomery definitely have their hearts in the right place. The Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis is definite proof of this. Held at Huntington College, this yearly fun family event features a 5k competitive run, a free Tot Trot for first-time runners as well as a family run. There's even a 1 mile Santa Chase for the kids. It all goes to raise money and awareness for those who suffer from arthritis.
While beauty may be in the eyes of the beholder, there is plenty to behold every January when Montgomery is the host city for the Miss Alabama and Miss Alabama Teen USA Pageants. This event is part of the Miss Universe Organization and features contestants between the ages of 14 and 26. These young women participate in interview, swimsuit and evening gown competitions. The top prizes include thousands of dollars in scholarships as well as the privilege to travel the state promoting the pageant.
