Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Student-Athletes in NCAA Compensation Case

The Supreme Court has decided unanimously that the NCAA cannot enforce rules limiting education-related benefits that colleges offer to student athletes - things like computers and paid internships. Mondays ruling will help determine whether schools decide to offer athletes tens of thousands of dollars in those benefits for things including tutoring, study abroad programs and graduate scholarships.

Governor Ivey has issued a state of emergency in response to Tropical Storm Claudette to aid in any recovery efforts. The state of emergency went into effect Friday, June 18. The state of emergency includes: Baldwin, Butler, Cherokee, DeKalb, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe and Tuscaloosa.

A law firm based in Montgomery is doing their part in helping mold the youth. The Serious Injury Law Firm has awarded over $52,000 in scholarships to high school students across the state of Alabama. Twenty-one students received scholarships.

OPELIKA, Ala. AP Authorities say an armed 20-year-old man was fatally shot during a standoff with sheriffs deputies and Alabama state troopers.
