The Alabama State University Hornets take the field in several sports. They play in the NCAA Division I competition in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The university's football team plays at Hornet Stadium while the basketball teams hold court at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The Hornet baseball team plays at the ASU Baseball Complex.

Williams is linked to Montgomery as he won his first talent show here at the Empire Theatre and also gave his last performance here just three days before his death.
