See exhibits and attractions that house the big cats, the primates, the exotic birds, the hoofed creatures, the wild wolves and even polar bears. Hidden in the four-acres beside the zoo, Como Town is a lesser-known attraction in Como Park but an excellent one for children between the ages 2 and 12. This amusement park offers rides such as a carousel, bumper cars, a Tilt-A-Whirl and more! In addition to the rides and Splash Zone, Como Town offers carnival games, puppet shows and other family-fun.

Hike or bike during the warmer seasons and ski during the snowy ones at Fort Snelling State Park, a 2,931-acre state park located in the heart of the Twin Cities. This park offers miles of sloping and flat trails, a golf course, beach and boating area. Bring your equipment along for lake or river fishing, and don’t forget to pack a picnic because you might end up spending the whole day outdoors here.

Located in Phalen Park and just a stone’s throw away from the amphitheater and golf course, Lake Phalen offers plenty of outdoor and aquatic activities along its shore. One of the most popular fishing lakes in the Twin Cities, this urban lake is stocked with walleyes and tiger muskies in addition to the native fish. You can also rent paddleboats, canoes and sailboats at the Phalen Lakeside Activities Center.

Travel to Saint Paul’s Twin City to see the Minnesota Timberwolves take to the court. The T-Wolves play their games in Minneapolis’ Target Center. This NBA basketball franchise is part of the 1989 expansion; like most expansion teams, the Timberwolves struggled in the beginning but managed to win their first division title in 2004.
