Things To Do in Waco, TX

Temple Railroad and Heritage MuseumTemple Railroad and Heritage Museum

If you have a family member fascinated by railroads, or if you yourself used to have a train set and want to get a look at where it all began, then the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum is a must-see attraction. The city of Temple was founded in 1881 by the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway Company as a major junction point, and it makes sense that one of the city's main attractions is this railroad museum. Among seeing vintage pieces and artifacts, the center point of it all is the Rails Across America exhibit that presents the impact of railroads in American life for the past 50 years.

Waco Winery & VineyardsWaco Winery & Vineyards

Explore the rich and crisp tastes of some of the finest wines produced in Texas by gathering your fellow wine-lovers over to the Tasting Room of Waco Winery & Vineyards. There you will happily encounter a rooftop patio for the enjoyment of customers along with music and dancing every week on “Wine-Down Fridays and Saturdays,” while sponsoring local performers and artwork.  Ask about their “buy the vine, buy the wine” program whereby you can actually purchase grapevines that Waco Winery will plant, care for and ultimately produce wine specifically for you with grapes grown from those vines. Be sure to taste their port-type wines especially their Malbec and Tempranillo selections. You'll discover among many that there is truth found in wine.

Westfest Polka FestivalWestfest Polka Festival

Since 1976, locals and visitors alike have enjoyed the Westfest Polka Festival, held in West, Texas, a short 15 mile drive from Waco. Visitors pay homage to the German culture in Texas with a big variety of food booths, kids' activities, a parade, baking contests, arts and crafts, a tractor pull and even a polka mass! Of course, there is also plenty of polka music and dance contests to enter and enjoy. The event is traditionally held over the Labor Day weekend, so plan to make your way out West for an unforgettable time at the Westfest Polka Festival.

Twin Rivers Golf ClubTwin Rivers Golf Club

The Twin Rivers Golf Club offers the best of both worlds. It is an accessible, player-friendly 18-hole course. The 7,478 yards of golf from the longest tees make for a par of 72 and the course rating is 76 with a slope rating of 131. It all translates into one of Waco's favorite places to play a round or two, and the stellar maintenance staff works hard to ensure that each green stays in tournament condition. Six sets of teeboxes make this course quite inviting, no matter what your skill level may be.
